The latest film from Japanese master Hirokazu Kore-eda, After the Storm is a mature exploration of family dynamics and depicts how individual family members cope after a divorce. Continuing its series on contemporary world cinema, Calgary Cinematheque presents this 2016 Japanese family drama.

Kore-eda’s work often depicts the tensions and relationships within a family with plenty of beauty, intelligence and genuine emotions. In it we meet Ryota, a prize winning novelist who is down on his luck and has to work as a private detective to pay his bills. He is divorced from his wife but is determined to find a way to be relevant in his son’s life again.

Presented in Japanese with English subtitles, After the Storm screens at 7:00pm on January 12, 2017 at the Globe Cinema (617 8th Ave. SW). Advance tickets and memberships can be found at
