Love the art of the word? Then you need to check out the Calgary Spoken Word Festival. Hosted by the Calgary Spoken Word Society, this year’s lineup features four days of workshops and performances in celebration of poetry and music.

Performers include spoken word superstars Sheri-D Wilson, Mighty Mike McGee, Mary Pinkoski, Andre Prefontaine, Cobra Collins, and Shaf as well as poets and writers Lorna Crozier, Aritha van Herk, Afua Cooper, Micheline Maylor, and Julie Trimingham. There’s even a special edition of the monthly Ink Spot Slam & Open Mic on April 25.

“This festival is for everyone! It is poetry by the people for the people,” says Artistic Director Sheri-D Wilson, in a statement. “The festival is run by volunteers with the intention to spread the word of inclusion and love—and this year we bring you the best of poetry and spoken word with more music than ever.”

The Calgary Spoken Word Festival runs April 22 to 25, 2017. Head to for full festival details.
