Originally commissioned by Campbell and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 2003, this jazz concerto for clarinet and orchestra takes the listener on a thrilling journey through the styles of the classic jazz clarinet writers George Gershwin and Benny Goodman. Canada’s pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist, Campbell is a JUNO Award-winning musician and member of the Order of Canada. The program is rounded out by Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet & Orchestra and Overture to Die Freischütz alongside Sibelius’ Finlandia, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, and Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture. There are two chances to catch the show—7:30pm on October 26, 2018 at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre (850 4th St. SE) and 7:30pm on October 27, 2018 at the Highwood Centre (128 5th Ave. W, High River)—so be sure to grab your tickets.
