Money can be a bit tight with big ticket events like the Stampede taking place, but there’s still tons to do without spending a buck. From concerts to an entire free market, here’s what we’re checking out this week:

Fluor Rope Square

Hosted by the Calgary Stampede Downtown Attractions Committee, this piece of Stampede heaven is located right in the heart of downtown. Every day starts with a bacon pancake served hot off a chuckwagon or smokie and includes tons of free entertainment including the Fluor Great Western Flapjack Flip, Lammle’s World Champion Hat Stomp Competition, square dancing, horse drawn rig rides, and the First Nations Parade.

ProArts Presents William Friedson

Jazz composer and pianist William Friedson is known for showing audiences a new wave in merging classical and jazz techniques. Taking from Debussy, Jacques Lossier, and Bill Evans while sprinkling in plenty of Keith Jarrett’s technique, see him at this free lunch-hour concert.

Music in the Plaza

Heritage Park’s free summer concert series, Music in the Plaza, returns for a seventh season of spectacular live music. Farmers’ Market Fridays

10-Minute Plays for Jane’s Walk – Summer Edition

Master Class for Families
