With the first long weekend of the summer looming large, if you’re staying in town be sure to check out these free events. There’s a chance to dive into Canada Day celebrations, lots of live music, and so much more, so you have no reason to stay home. Here’s what we’re hitting up this week.

ProArts presents Duo Solista

The City of Calgary has once again partnered with dozens of local cultural organizations to program a day filled with free, family-friendly events. Bursting with music, dance, art, and culture, the celebration includes an Indigenous Showcase on Prince’s Island Park and live music on the Tim Hortons Canada Day stage. It all wraps with a fantastic fireworks display.

Canada Day Youth Showcase

Bring live music fans of all ages to the King Eddy for a family-friendly bash in celebration of Canada’s 152nd birthday. The day includes a roster of local youth performing heart-exploding sets courtesy of Major Minor Music Project, Girls Rock Camp Calgary, and School of Rock Calgary.

Celebrate Canada Day

Celebrate Canada Day at the library and recognize the many stories of Canada. Take part in special storytimes, crafts for all ages, Indigenous games and a tipi raising, and even a road hockey game. There’s even a Canadian film festival, musical performances, tours, and pop-up poetry.

Bring your lawn chair to enjoy great snacks and live entertainment for the entire family. With shows throughout the city this summer, it all kicks off in Acadia.
