The weather is balmy and it’s a perfect week to explore. With free shows and concerts, there’s always something to do. Just don’t forget to take a moment to honour Remembrance Day. Here’s what’s on our list this week:

ProArts Presents Prashant Michael John

Born in Lahore and raised in Bangladesh, Prashant Michael John moved to Canada at the age of 19. His compositions, while influenced by the musics of the Indian sub-continent, combine the instrumentation of a variety of genres and world cultures. Hear him perform in this free lunch hour concert.

Friends We Haven’t Met

Local writer, artist and designer, Kaitlyn Hatch launches her new book this week. The evening is open to the public starting at 7:30pm, although dinner reservations can be made from 6:30pm. A reading is slated for 8:00pm and a selection of Hatch’s artwork will be on display.

Single Onion #136

The Single Onion wraps up its fall season with readings by Shane Book, Tyler Perry, and a tribute to the poetry of Hector Williamson, an active member of the Calgary writing community since the 1970s. Williamson passed away on September 19, 2016, and the Single Onion pays tribute with the help of writers who knew him well.

Freehand Books Fall Bash

Join Freehand Books in celebrating the release of two exceptional debut works of fiction—Teardown, stories by Clea Young, and The Weather Inside, a novel by Emily Saso. This double book launch features readings from both the authors and special guest Ann Eriksson, followed by a discussion, Q&A and book signing. Refreshments will be served and drinks will be available for purchase.

Artist Talk: Larissa Fassler

Larissa Fassler heads to the Esker Foundation to speak about her interest in the public spaces of cities and the various methods she uses to survey these public sites. Looking at specific places in Berlin, Paris, and downtown Calgary, she will speak about the questions, issues, and opportunities each of these sites brings.

Fort Calgary Artisans’ Fair

November 11, 2016, 10:30am – 5:00pm

Free with a non-perishable food donation for the Veterans’ Food Bank

Join Fort Calgary for a special Remembrance Day service at 10:30am, followed by an artisans’ market featuring over 60 talented local makers starting at 11:30am. Look for jewelry, hand-made crafts, holiday decor, photography and more. Lunch and beverages will be available to purchase on site during the fair.

Heritage Weavers and Spinners Annual Fall Sale

Get to know the Heritage Weavers and Spinners at its annual fall sale. Featuring weaving, spinning and fibre art, all made locally by group members, this is a great chance to pick up an unique gift. Demonstrations are available throughout the day.

The Group Art Society of Calgary’s Fall Show and Sale

Calgary Fibre Arts Fair
