Returning to the Calgary stage just in time for the the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein, Artist Collective Theatre and Attic Players present Mary Humphrey Baldridge’s Genesis: The Mary Shelley Play.

Having first premiered at Theatre Calgary in 1978, Genesis portrays the nights of intrigue and titillation between Lord Byron (Owen Bishop), Mary (Danielle Larose) and Percy Shelley (Benjamin Blyth), Dr. Polidori (Ben Jacobs), and Claire Clairmont (Kaleigh Richards) that inspired one of the most celebrated works of horror literature.

Directed by Amanda Liz Cutting, the show has a dark intensity as the audience bear witness as the idea for Frankenstein comes together in Mary’s mind.

“We chose the intimate setting of performing in the round at Motel Theatre to allow the audience to be submerged into the world—to be a part of the reality, dream, and nightmare,” says Shelby Reinitz, producer of the production, in a statement.

Genesis: The Mary Shelley Play runs September 21 to 30, 2017 at the Motel Theatre, Arts Commons (205 8th Ave. SE). The production contains nudity and mature subject matter, viewer discretion is advised.
