Holiday Gift Guide 2017

Give the gift of arts and culture this season

Amy Jo Espetveidt

The holidays are upon us and there always seems to be at least one person that you have no idea what to buy for. Luckily, these great offers make it super simple to give them the gift of arts and culture this year!

Alberta Theatre Projects

With half of its season left to be staged you can’t go wrong with a gift voucher for Alberta Theatre Projects. A flexible way to experience theatre, they can be used in any combination for any show remaining in the current season including the world premiere of Glory.

Calgary International Blues Festival

Calgary International Blues Festival’s annual holiday sale returns and features 2018 four-day transferrable passes for just $99. But make sure you hurry, prices go up on January 1, 2018.

Calgary International Film Festival

If you have a film buff on your list, this holiday offer is sure to be a hit. Only available until December 31, 2017, get a five-pack of tickets to the 2018 festival for $50. Tickets can be redeemed online in advance or at the box office and there are no restrictions on the number of tickets from your pack you can use per film.

Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra

Tickets to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra make a great gift for music lovers young and old alike! Upcoming shows include A Symphonic Tribute to Prince, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone™ In Concert, and Ode to Joy. Have someone picky to buy for? Get them a ticket voucher! Starting at $60, they can choose their own concert and redeem the vouchers for great seats (some restrictions apply).

GlobalFest’s annual holiday sale is always a great time to save with general admission tickets just $7.50, finale tickets $15, and GlobalPasses $35. The deal is on until December 31, 2017 and for each one purchased, GlobalFest will donate one ticket to its Individuals and Families-In-Need Program. The annual summer festival once again plays host to five magical evenings of multicultural activities and international fireworks, August 16 to 25, 2018.

High Performance Rodeo

While passes to Calgary’s own High Performance Rodeo make a great gift, it’s $15 Wednesdays that has us buying stocking stuffers. Each Wednesday night during the Rodeo, January 3 to 28, 2018, scoop up tickets for most shows at just $15 each (some restrictions apply). These include Make Love Not Art, Inner Elder, Salt-Water Moon, and many more. And at that price, it’s a great chance to see something new.

Loft 112

Got a reader on your list? Gift a story this season with Loft 112’s beautiful chapbooks. They can even send them anywhere in the world with a decorative envelope. Just drop them an email them at for a list of authors.

Lunchbox Theatre

This season you can purchase two Lunchbox Theatre ticket vouchers for only $42. Valid for any remaining show in its current season, they make the perfect gift. Just head to the Lunchbox Theatre’s Box Office (160, 115 9th Ave. SE) to pick up a pair or two.

Sage Theatre

This year Sage Theatre has partnered up with Indigo to make shopping a little bit easier. When you shop at Indigo through the link below, you are also supporting Sage Theatre with a proceed of the sales. Talk about a win-win!
