Taking some of the finest Newfoundland songs and combining them with traditional instruments, memorable characters, and a conclusion that turns the province’s past on his head, don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime theatre experience.

After eight successful weeks of shows in St. John’s, Corner Brook, Kitchener, Hamilton, and Ottawa, this incredible musical comes to Calgary.

“Our goal is to delight audiences with the songs and sounds of Newfoundland and Labrador while shedding a little light on the challenges we have faced as a province,” says Bob Hallett, the musical’s producer, and a founding member of Great Big Sea, in a statement. “The people of NL are resilient and have met struggle head-on, but we can’t ignore how we got here.”

Taking place in a fictional community called God’s Back Pocket, family and friends gather to say goodbye to a beloved matriarch with songs and stories. Over the course of the night, the family must look past their differences and come together to reconcile their turbulent pasts, while coming to terms with a deal that doomed the province—Churchill Falls.

Featuring some of NL’s most talented musical theatre artists, including Kelly-Ann Evans, Calvin Powell, Paul Rowe, Vicki Harnett, Marquita Walsh, and Keelan Purchase, the show’s music draws on decades of experience with the NL songbook. Production musicians include Newfoundland stars like Sean Panting, Josh Ward, and living legend, Kelly Russell.

Hallett believes the show is the most ambitious theatre production to come out of Newfoundland and Labrador, and aims to bring it to Broadway next year.

No Change in the Weather runs September 18 to 21, 2019 at The Grand (608 1st St. SW).
