In 1997, Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers acquired a library of over 2,500 16mm films from the Calgary Public Library and regularly screen them for the public. But there’s a catch—each time the film is kept a secret until the credits roll.

Including cult classics, animations, shorts, and documentaries, once every month, a local Calgary curator is asked to choose a film to screen but due to copyright reasons, the title cannot be disclosed in advance. This month, co-founders of Femme Wave, Hayley Muir and Kaely Cormack, take over the helm.

A feminist arts festival, Femme Wave takes place annually across multiple inner-city venues each November, and to give you a hint of what you might be seeing, the film features a lot of rebellious women, jazz, and Alice Munro.

The screening takes place at 8:00pm on October 19, 2017 at CSIF’s screening room (100, 1725 10th Ave. SW). Admission is by donation and space is limited, so make sure you reserve your spot at A limited number of tickets will be available at the door as well.
