You know the music, now see the famous opera that has been called a masterpiece of comedy. Calgary Opera opens its season with The Barber of Seville.

One of the world’s most-popular comic operas, escape into the hilarious high-jinx of Count Almaviva, as he plots against Doctor Bartolo with the help of the town barber, Figaro, all to win the love of the beautiful Rosina.

Based on Beaumarchais’ French comedy Le Barbier de Séville, the 1816 premiere was a huge failure and saw the audience hissing and booing. Now, 200 years later, the opera is the seventh most performed in the world.

The Barber of Seville runs November 18, 22, and 24, 2017 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14th Ave. NW).
