The storied collaboration that launched Alberta Ballet’s beloved signature portrait ballets, celebrate the 10th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s The Fiddle & the Drum with this beautiful re-staging.

Growing out of an intense two-year labour of love between the famed Canadian singer-songwriter and choreographer Jean Grand-Maître, The Fiddle and The Drum gives passionate expression to Mitchell’s lifelong concern with the issues of conflict, violence, and the devastation of the environment.

The show sees Alberta Ballet dancers depict Mitchell’s most famous characters from her lyrics and artwork, illustrating fragile hope and potential for the creation of beauty. During its creation, Mitchell invested herself in designing the sets, video installation, and music including three songs she expressly wrote for the ballet.

The Fiddle & the Drum runs May 1 to 4, 2019 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14th. Ave. NW).
