A brand-new spin on this timeless classic with a decidedly western Canadian sensibility, experience the world premiere production of Christopher Anderson’s The Sleeping Beauty with Alberta Ballet.

Inspired by Tchaikovsky’s noble score, Anderson’s grand interpretation of this famous fairy tale transports you to the kingdom that slept 100 years. Cursed by a wicked fairy, Princess Aurora is fated to die from a prick to her finger on her 16th birthday. But a good fairy intervenes to alter the tragic spell—instead of dying, the princess and her entire kingdom fall into a deep sleep, and only true love’s kiss will awaken them.

Heralded as ballet’s most sumptuous and artistically exacting masterpiece, Anderson’s interpretation substitutes the tale’s usual European setting with awe-inspiring landscapes of the Canadian Rockies.

The Sleeping Beauty runs October 24 to 27, 2018 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (1415 14th Ave. NW).
