Get ready to see the Decidedly Jazz Danceworks company members in a whole new light as they debut the dancer-choreographed show, Velocity.

Under the artistic direction of long-time DJD dancer Catherine Hayward, the show offers the unique opportunity to see another side of the dancers with each member creating at least one piece for performance.

Velocity is a show of emerging experiments,” says Hayward, in a statement. “Our ideas, our creativity and the music are driving us through the rehearsal process as we explore and discover where those experiments will lead. It is a challenging, fast-paced process but it can also be a lot of fun trying things, succeeding, failing, and making discoveries.”

Made up of 10 short pieces, each with its own style, dynamics, and rhythm, Velocity not only provides the dancers with a valuable experience, it also gives audiences a chance to see the dancers’ choreographic inspiration come to life.

“When audiences come to Velocity, I want them to feel a different kind of connection to the company,” continues Hayward. “Not only a connection to how the dancers move, but also a glimpse into their minds, their ideas, their creativity, and their choreographic voices.”

Velocity runs November 16 to 26, 2017 at the DJD Dance Centre (111 12th Ave. SE).
