Loosely based on the 1959 novel by James Vance Marshall, the film follows two city-bred children as they make their way though the Australian outback. Lost and weak, the two are discovered by an Indigenous boy who is on a walkabout from his tribe. Living up to its tagline—just about the most different film you’ll ever see—the film premiered in competition at the 1971 Cannes Film Festival. Walkabout screens at 7:00pm on October 19, 2017 at the Globe Cinema (617 8th Ave. SW). Advance tickets and memberships can be found at calgarycinema.org.
