Marking Freedom to Read Week, Wordfest, the Calgary Public Library, and the Writer’s Guild of Alberta team up to host a discussion of censorship and the controversy surrounding the award-winning graphic novel, This One Summer by Mariko and Jillian Tamaki. Hosted by Anne Logan of ivereadthis.com, This One Summer is a stunning story of friendship, illustrated with subtly heart-breaking moments and pure summer joy. Winner of the Governor General’s Award for Children’s Illustration, libraries in Minnesota and Florida removed This One Summer from their shelves in 2016 after parents complained of the book’s use of profanity and mature themes.
