The Future Focus Program is a joint initiative of Calgary Arts Development, the Rozsa Foundation and the Calgary Foundation aimed at supporting Calgary-based arts organizations to investigate, plan and implement significant strategic adaptations in their operations. The goal of the program was to assist organizations in making strategic changes or decisions about their model, operations or focus that may inform how existing and future programs are developed and delivered. Through this program, organizations access funds to develop strategies and engage expertise to build their capacity and assist them in their journeys to navigate the questions, challenges and opportunities they face.

In the 2024 grant year, the Future Focus Program supported 36 organizations to a total of $534,480. For information about how this program was assessed, please see the Guidelines for the Future Focus Program. Due to the sensitive or confidential nature of work completed through this program, grantees will remain anonymous.

In addition to the joint initiative Future Focus Program, Calgary Arts Development maintains the Organization Structural Change program to address emerging needs related to organizational capacity activities that do not fit within the program goal of the Future Focus Program or occur outside of intake periods. These grants are made by the leadership team at Calgary Arts Development.

In 2024, two organizations received $25,000. Due to the sensitive or confidential nature of work completed through this program, grantees will remain anonymous.

Other Programs

The ArtShare Program was intended to provide one-time project funding to individual artists, artist collectives and arts organizations in Calgary/Mohkinsstsis who self-identify as equity-deserving, or which are led by and serve equity-deserving communities. Calgary Arts Development program staff work one on one with applicants to develop grant proposals and funding amounts.

Calgary Arts Development’s 2024 grant investment programs for individual artists and artist collectives were supplemented through the Cultural Vitality Fund of the Calgary Arts Foundation, with donations from individual donors, DIALOG, and an Anonymous Donor to the Edmonton Community Foundation. The majority of these funds were invested through the ArtShare program, and we thank these donors for their generous support.

We were able to support 21 applications to a total of $316,500.
