A City that Brews
Calgary has always been a beer city. From after-work pints to neighbourhood happy hours, beer has been part of how this place connects. In the past decade, that tradition has spilled into a new wave of craft breweries that are reshaping the city’s cultural map.
Eighty-Eight Brewing Co. is one of the anchors of this movement. Born from a homebrew club and inspired by the electricity of the 1988 Olympics, the brewery is as much about retro spirit as it is about contemporary Calgary life. Inside its taproom, creativity shows up in the names of beers, the design of merch, and the events that keep the space buzzing. Run clubs, block parties, music festivals and Pride celebrations are all part of the weekly calendar, making Eighty-Eight a hub for community as much as for beer.
In this episode, we sit down with the founders, brewers and staff who keep the taps flowing and the culture alive. Their story reveals how Calgary’s love of beer has entered a new era, one shaped by experimentation, collaboration and a spirit of play.
