Linnea Martina Hannigan
Linnea has her BFA from the Alberta University of the Arts, major: jewellery & metalsmithing. Now a painter, her work focuses on contemporary landscapes & details of nature.
“As an artist, I’m drawn to the fluidity and spontaneity of watercolour, a medium associated with tradition. I push the boundaries of tradition by using nontraditional watercolour substrates, infusing my work with contemporary energy. Unconventional use of watercolour and inks allows for unexpected textures, layers and interactions, giving the paintings a modern feel that contrasts with the medium’s historic reputation. My work seeks to reframe watercolour within the context of contemporary art, challenging preconceived notions of watercolour.”
