November 14, 2022 2023 – 2025 Centre City Banner Artists Announced Calgary Arts Development is pleased to announce the next three artists to be featured in the Centre City Banner Program: Jacqueline Huskisson (2023), Slavek Pytraczyk (2024) and Michelle Ku (2025). The Centre City Banner program engages local artists to create designs for banners displayed on light poles and bridges leading into the downtown core. The banner artworks act as gateways to Calgary’s downtown and cultural district, welcoming people to the heart of the city. This program, started in 2008 by the City of Calgary, is now run by Calgary Arts Development as part of the new direction for public art. Each artist will develop original artworks to be displayed for approximately one year. Designs will consider the different characteristics of the city of Calgary, and celebrate our cultures, communities, histories, geography and diversity. Artists were selected by an independent jury, facilitated by Calgary Arts Development. The work of current banner artist Curtis Van Charles will remain on display until 2023. You can learn more about the history of the Centre City Banner program on The City of Calgary’s website here. Information on the current program can be found on Calgary Arts Development’s website here.
