2025 Utility Box Public Art Artworks Installed Across Calgary

All artworks from the 2025 Utility Box Public Art Program are now complete and installed across Calgary.

This year’s program features 34 new utility box artworks by 16 local artists, created in collaboration with 12 community partners. Installed across multiple neighbourhoods, the artworks respond to local context through themes of place, identity, culture, memory and everyday life — transforming utility boxes into accessible art.

Many of the utility boxes drew inspiration from neighbourhood histories, natural landscapes, personal storytelling and cultural symbolism. Together, the completed works reflect the diversity of artistic practices and perspectives that shape Calgary.

In 2025, the program also included a curated pilot project in Marda Loop, led by curator Stacey Watson and featuring artwork by Tayler Schenkeveld. The pilot explored a new approach to artist selection, research and engagement, and will help inform the program’s future direction in 2026.
