Centre City Banner Program welcomes artist Mackenzie Brown
Calgary-based artist Mackenzie Brown is the latest artist featured in the Centre City Banner Program (2026 – 2027) — an initiative that brings public art to key gateways throughout downtown. Her banner series is currently being installed and will be on view for approximately one year.
Titled Nêhiyaw love letters to otôskwanihk (Calgary), the series reflects Brown’s personal experiences of connection, care and belonging on this land. Through vibrant colour and symbolic imagery, the artworks bring together memory, landscape and Cree cultural teachings.
Mackenzie’s artistic practice is deeply rooted in her cultural teachings and the guidance of âtayôhkan (spirit guides). Her work often evokes movement and connection to the land, drawing on surrounding landscapes and a belief in the healing power of art to carry forward stories, language and relationships between all living beings.
