Métis Public Art Gathering
We are honoured to be working in collaboration with the Métis community on a new public art initiative. Over the summer, the Métis Project team has been engaging with community members to better understand Métis interests and priorities around public art and Métis representation in Calgary.
To bring the Métis community around this initiative and begin the project in a good way, through relationship-building, storytelling and knowledge sharing, we are hosting a Métis Public Art Gathering at The Confluence on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
The Gathering will feature an introduction to the vision for the Métis public art initiative, a panel discussion with leading Métis public artists and cultural workers from across Turtle Island, a guided workshop to share stories, ideas and aspirations, and a tour of sites significant to Métis people, led by Métis archaeologist Dawn Wambold and Métis historian Matt Hiltermann.
This marks an important first step in ensuring the Métis Project is rooted in Métis voices, history and ways of knowing. In the spirit of this important goal, the event is open exclusively to members of the Métis community.
If you are a Métis community member and would like to attend the gathering or get involved in future phases of the project, please email Project Lead, Tiffany Wollman at tiffany.wollman@calgaryartsdevelopment.com. You can also help shape this initiative by filling out our Métis Project survey.
