Public Art 101: New Video Series
Public Art 101 is a new video series focused on supporting artists, community groups and organizers interested in developing public art projects. This 10-part, self-paced series hosted by Dawn van de Schoot offers practical tools and an overview of key stages in the public art process — from planning, budgeting and community engagement, to fabrication, installation and maintenance.
Now available online, Session 1: Why Public Art? explores the role of art in public spaces and how it contributes to cities through placemaking, storytelling and community connection. A new session will be released each week, and all sessions will remain online and available so viewers can pick and choose the topics specific to their needs, or watch them all.
Each session includes additional resources and templates to support further learning and planning. An ASL (American Sign Language) version is also available.
Public Art 101 was developed based on a series of in-person workshops held as part of a pilot project in 2024.
