Stage Manager/Operation Support

The stage manager/operation support role needs a handy person with experience in making the calls during performances; ensuring the maintenance of the tech equipment; repairing minor problems with electrical components such as extension cords, lighting equipment, sound equipment cables; doing minimal van and trailer maintenance; as well as office-based data entry and inventory.

Jubilee Theatre Production accountabilities:

  • Participate in rehearsal periods.
  • Provide in venue technical support.
  • Coordinate the volunteers for building props and costumes as needed
  • Run and control the performance including the making of calls.
  • Oversee calling the lighting cues, the movements of scenic elements, sound elements, technical elements, and performers.
  • Organize the backstage areas during a performance.

The Stage Manager shall be prepared to assist the Artists on matters relating to their physical welfare and safe working conditions and facilitate consultation with the technical director and/or artistic staff.

Technical Equipment — responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the producing director, establish the equipment list and monitor the budget for equipment.
  • Request quotes from suppliers, secure resources, and coordinate the reception of equipment.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the touring equipment: order supplies and maintain inventory; organize Sea Can storage; clean costumes and props; organize equipment maintenance ; purchase props and costumes, repair props and costumes.
  • In collaboration with the management, track expenses, update the budget, and reconcile finances at the end of each project.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of technical equipment and offer advice on equipment purchases at the end of the fiscal year.
  • Ensure storage and management of materials in the warehouse.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the company vehicles, including valid insurance coverage and all vehicle documentation during periods of use. Plan basic vehicles’ maintenance such as oil change, etc.; fix vehicles minor issues; drive trailers and vans.
  • Collaborate with management to develop, update, and implement various company policies related to operations (tech manuals, packing instructions, etc.).

Office responsibilities:

  • Help with residency planning: book hotels; organize tours; prepare schools’ folders and documents; send out report requests, update reports and statistics; and update salesforce databases.
  • Support management overall.

Required Qualifications:

  • College-level education in theatre production, relevant training, or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a production coordination role in the entertainment industry.
  • Valid driver’s license, class 4 is an asset.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, French is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of technical terms and equipment related to the production or presentation of theatre.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AirTable, and Salesforce software.

Working Conditions:

  • Two weeks of vacation per year, three weeks after 2 years in the position.

This is a full time long-term position, working mainly Sunday to Thursday.

Our location is just outside the city in the NW. A vehicle will be necessary to get to work.

Capable of lifting up to 50lb.

Class 4 driving license an asset.

Salary range: $44,000 – $48,000 based on experience.

The position may include meetings in schools with administration and parent volunteers; a current vulnerable sector police information check is required.
