Illustrator for Children’s Storybook

Looking for Digital Book Illustrator

Indigenous children’s storybook project: We are searching for the right illustrator/digital artist to complement the traditional line art of our Indigenous artist from the Gitxsan Nation for our children’s storybook to be published this year.

Please see the parameters below for this special project and submit to our Administrator Stephanie Nyce at gilwaconsultingoffice@gmail.com.

The Story

A little Indigenous boy learns through the animals how to sacrifice his own needs for the sake of the whole. The underlying message is shared wealth and the story takes place in a small First Nations village on the northwest coast of Canada. It is written for young children to understand but has deep metaphors for adults to appreciate. We want this book to be a universal message for all, not just Indigenous people. It’s a 42-page children’s picture book. We have created a dummy book and many of the pages have loose concepts already.

Team Goal

We will publish, promote and distribute in Canada, eventually worldwide. We have a small team of people on this project that are passionate about the content and we have an Indigenous First Nations Artist who is creating the objects on each page of traditional northwest coast line art. Our concept is to place two very different art medium styles together to make the traditional art really stand out. With the right illustrator we know these two very different mediums will be a beautiful marriage.

Illustrator background

Can be from any ethnic background (the team of us are Indigenous but the illustrator can be from anywhere, we love and welcome all.)

Be willing to collaborate with another illustrator and work with the team as a whole. Willing to work with us virtually in meetings.

Style

We want to capture an ethereal rough illustrative feel of the pacific northwest coast landscape art with ocean, forest, First Nations people, pre colonial village community, canoes, etc. Feels moody, magical and accurately portrays the majesty of the British Columbia coast. Perhaps a watercolor or sketch medium either done practically but with digital capabilities. Is organic looking with no clean lines

Medium

We are open, just need illustrations to look organic .

Digital Art

Experience is necessary in order to make the traditional line art files cohesive with renderings. The traditional line artist works digitally as well and can format to most any file type.

Rate

Will be compensated with a competitive publishing market value advance plus ongoing royalties that the sales of the book provides. Legal contracts will be signed.

Please provide any online artist portfolio or body of work that fits the description of this project, any work experience and your contact information.

Looking forward to seeing your creations!
