Job Summary

cSPACE Marda Loop is a thriving arts hub nestled in the vibrant community of Marda Loop, Calgary. We are seeking a Market Coordinator to oversee the organizing and execution of a community-oriented market. The position of Market Coordinator will commence immediately, with The Market scheduled to operate from late May to mid-September.

As the market coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating a minimum of 4 monthly markets, infusing the cSPACE Marda Loop Art Park with a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. We are seeking an individual with a dynamic spirit, a deep-seated passion for local arts and culture, a dedication to community enrichment, and a knack for running events.

Responsibilities

Plan and execute a minimum of 4 (with a target of 8) outdoor markets in the cSPACE Marda Loop Art Park. These will run from the end of May until mid-September 2024, respectively with a minimum of 25 vendors per week. Vendors will include local producers and creators, ensuring a diverse array of local businesses and artists.

Market coordination duties will include:

Community Engagement

  • Act as a liaison between cSPACE Marda Loop and the local community, fostering strong connections and community engagement.
  • Organize community-oriented activities and entertainment to enhance the overall market experience.
  • Build a community of vendors who see value in being a part of cSPACE and align with our missionIdentify strategic collaborations and partnerships between vendors and the cSPACE community

Market Coordination

  • Connecting external vendors with cSPACE.
  • Providing and tracking cSPACE contracts/agreements to Market vendors.
  • Providing consistent communication as the liaison between The Market vendors and cSPACE staff.
  • Coordinate logistics, including vendor registration, volunteer tasks,layout planning, and general market oversight
  • Recruit and communicate with local artisans, artists, producers, and vendors to ensure a diverse and appealing market lineup.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with vendors, addressing inquiries and providing necessary event details.
  • Work with cross-functional teams within cSPACE (engagement, operations, and communications).

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in event coordination, preferably experience in the context of outdoor, creative markets or similar community events.
  • Strong time-management skills and experience working independently
  • Results based work environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Passion for supporting local arts and culture, farmers, and artisans.
  • Familiarity with the Calgary community and its local vendors.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings during mandatory market weekends.
Other Details

This is a part-time casual contract with variable hours (15-20 hours per week), with increased hours during the months of April – June during the planning and preparation phase.

This position reports to the event and engagement manager with a collaborative reporting and working link to communications and operations.
