Gallery Manager & Associate
Position: Full-time / Permanent
Salary: $32 – 34/hour

The Carter-Ryan Gallery & Live Theatre Venue is currently seeking a confident, enthusiastic gallery manager & associate for our galleries in Canmore and Banff, Alberta. Carter-Ryan is excited to offer a dynamic role requiring a motivated, engaged and passionate-about-the-arts team member, who is interested in being a part of the artistic vision of Carter-Ryan. We are seeking a person who is passionate about supporting and promoting the visual art world of Indigenous sculptor/painter Jason Carter and the theatrical world of Carter-Ryan’s new micro-theatre and it’s numerous productions, both in the theatre and immersive outdoor experiences.
We are seeking someone who is able to multi-task and adapt quickly to an ever-changing and dynamic environment and will often require you to engage in local, national and international clientele, promoting the performing arts and the visual arts within the gallery. A knowledge of Jason Carter and his body of work is an asset. We also require you to be a strong sales leader, with great organizational and interpersonal skills as you will be a part of leading the team to commercial and artistic success of the gallery/theatre. You have a strong handle on the digital landscape and a proficiency in the latest design and production landscape (Adobe, Illustrator, InDesign & Google Docs) an asset. Responsibilities:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced and energetic work environment, where being a collaborative team player is essential.
- Assistance in the development of promotional materials, light bookkeeping, and gallery/ theatre program support.
- Proficiency in current design and production software, including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat.
Daily opening & closing duties:
- Creating a welcoming environment & providing excellent customer service at all times
- Comfortably engaging and educating each customer with the stories behind each piece
- Converting conversations into sales
- Communicating with the shipping/printing/delivery department
- Tracking and managing inventory
Sales/CRM management:
- Daily email/call follow up with new customers and existing collectors
- Packing and preparing pieces for shipments as needed
- Work collaboratively with other employees to provide support on a wide range of administrative tasks and daily operations
- The ability to speak engagingly about art presented in gallery and must be well versed regarding the featured artist of the Carter-Ryan Gallery (Jason Carter).
Skills and requirements for the job:
- Possess a degree or diploma in arts and cultural management, Marketing, Communications or digital content and design from an accredited program or a minimum of 3-5 years comparable work experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Squarespace/Eventbrite: updating websites, etc.
- Manage pre-press coordination and coordinate printing with both in-house and 3rd parties.
- Macintosh OSX Operating System
- Well versed in Adobe Creative Suite applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and
Photoshop. - Must be able to lift up to 40 pds (sculpture) and handle/manage paintings.
- A people-person with the ability and confidence to interact with a range of people.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, including: Facebook, Twitter/X, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as social media management platforms such as Sprout Social and Hootsuite an asset.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends.
- Leadership skills with a winning positive attitude.
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
- Strong knowledge of the Alberta market.
Class 5 Drivers License.

$32-34/hour (pending on experience) and two weeks paid holiday (to start). Transitional housing available upon request for the first three months of contract.
Experience:
- Sales: 3 years (preferred)
- Marketing: 3 years (preferred or comparable)
- Arts and cultural management (preferred or comparable)
