Chinese Independent Film Association
The Association of Independent Chinese-Language Films was established in January 2023 to support the creation, production, and distribution of Chinese-language films and visual products. Its goal is to encourage overseas Chinese to create films about their own lives and provide more diverse options for Chinese-speaking audiences outside of Mainland China.
The association aims to reduce the influence of Mainland China’s “mainstream” audiovisual products on overseas Chinese by producing a large number of audiovisual works that reflect the lives of overseas Chinese. They plan to offer support and free courses related to film and video production to overseas Chinese and host the Chinese Independent Film Exhibition annually to showcase outstanding Chinese-language films. These stories will be based on people’s observations, recordings, and reflections on life, representing the experiences of Chinese people who have migrated overseas for various reasons.
