Thea Galang
Thea Galang was born in Roxas City, Capiz, Philippines and immigrated to Calgary, Alberta nine years ago. Through acrylic and oil painting, charcoal and graphite drawing, and sculpting with recyclable materials, she has honed her skills by being wildly experimental. Thea often combines two or more mediums to achieve a desired maximalist look with her multi-media art. When showcasing the subject matter featured in her pieces, Thea goes for a realistic composition combined with abstract, exuberant colours that are used to reflect a personal message.
Now attending Alberta University of the Arts in her First Year studies, Thea is looking forward to majoring in sculpture in the 2024 fall term. Her pieces often lead back to connecting her Filipino heritage by showcasing aspects of her hometown, her favourite home-cooked meals, and her family. She is also inspired by the surrounding local art scene flourishing in Calgary. Her inspirations include local Filipino Calgarian artists such as Ryle Ramirez, Harvey de Nichol, Gladzy Kei and Day Pajarillo.
