The Opportunity

The recruitment specialist is accountable for the recruitment activities for a specified portfolio within the recruitment team. This involves developing recruitment strategies, sourcing candidates, and leading the hiring manager/hiring committee through the hiring process.

In this role, the incumbent understands the culture Banff Centre is desiring and provides consultative and advisory assistance to the supervisors and managers in the sourcing and assessment of candidates that will support an inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible workforce.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the director, human resources, below are some key accountabilities.

Recruitment:

  • The incumbent will have a full working knowledge of Banff Centre policies and contractual obligations to ensure all processes and conversations are in compliance, particularly as they relate to management terms and conditions of employment and the collective agreement.
  • This position will actively participate in the interview process for positions within the hospitality portfolio and other files as assigned. The full life cycle recruitment duties will also include establishing the candidate profile, sourcing candidates, pre-screening resumes, pre-screen interviews, developing interview questions, coordinating interview schedules and committees, arranging travel arrangements, facilitating any testing that may be required, checking references and regretting unsuccessful candidates, and collaborating with HR colleagues to support candidate onboarding.
  • Provide an advisory approach to sourcing and recruiting talent – ensure the entire process delivers a positive experience for hiring managers and candidates through effective coaching, planning, communication and delivery of outcomes.
  • Provide hiring managers with regular weekly status updates on hiring progress and adjust the strategy as required.
  • Identity, share and implement best practices and trends in recruiting.
  • Be a Banff Centre brand ambassador and promote Banff Centre as an employer of choice online and all appropriate forums/events.

Recruitment Reporting and Applicant Tracking System

  • Run Taleo/ReportingDash Reports and distribute weekly competition report.
  • Identify shortages and surpluses of skilled candidates and advise the Director of Human Resources accordingly based on a thorough knowledge of current conditions within assigned divisions.
  • Work with the Director, Human Resources analyze past turnover rates, candidate sources, trends, and advertising responses to identify staffing needs and develop a proactive recruitment strategy.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate Taleo inputting for timely report generation.

General Accountabilities:

  • Assist in monitoring the human resources and Banff Centre Careers inbox and field all general inquiries regarding employment at Banff Centre with the highest standards of customer service and efficiency.
  • Actively promote positions and source candidates to build pipelines for difficult to fill positions.
  • Develop innovative sourcing strategies to attract new talent. Keep pipeline of candidates engaged.
  • Attend job fairs and local off site recruitment fairs as determined by the Director, Human Resources.

On-boarding and Orientation Process:

  • Gather, process, audit and maintain all on-boarding documents related to commencing employment including, but not limited to payroll information, employment contracts, and criminal record checks.
  • Works closely with the director, human resources to establish skill requirements for positions and to identify training requirements of new employees.
  • Facilitates the bi-weekly new employee orientation program and ensure that all logistics are in place for a successful orientation day.

Collective Agreement and Legislation:

  • The incumbent will possess a thorough knowledge of the collective agreement and ensure compliance in the recruitment process and in the workplace.
  • The incumbent will be aware of the obligations and limitations specified in the Human Rights Act regarding discriminatory employment and ensure that the Centre’s compliance regarding application forms, tests (if any) and hiring practices meet these requirements.
  • Understanding of how the Freedom of Information and the Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) affects the recruitment process.
  • Complete understanding of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and regulations and will act as a resource to managers and employees to address their immigration needs.
  • The incumbent will work on aspects of the Foreign Worker Programs with support from the director, human resources. This will include policy review and revision, airfare requirements and foreign employee file management.

External Relationships:

  • Work with local, regional, and national government agencies, and colleges/universities; research funding and/or working experience/internship opportunities for Banff Centre participation that will reinforce the Centre’s commitment to lifelong learning. Programs may include Summer Temporary Employment Program, Canada Summer Jobs, and various college/university internship/cooperative education programs.
  • Manage and build relationships within the recruiting and human resources industry by attending career fairs, focus groups, seminars and functions.

Administrative Support:

  • Perform administrative duties including composition of routine correspondence and processing of documents.
  • Assist other departmental staff in the production of standardized correspondence and assist with work projects and assignments, when required.
  • Perform other related duties as required and will be alert to opportunities for meeting the general objectives of the job, the Department and Banff Centre.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ of experience in corporate or agency recruitment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field – combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience using Applicant Tracking Software systems (e.g. Taleo).
  • Ability to implement new and innovative methods for sourcing talent using various web-based tools (e.g. LinkedIn, Indeed, etc.).
  • Expert knowledge of recruitment trends and technologies.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of self-motivation and possesses a sense of urgency to achieve objectives and exceed expectations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within all levels of our organizational structure and build strong relationships across the organization.
  • Analyze information to make data-driven decisions.
  • Provide superior customer service.
  • Able to adapt, promote, and champion change.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Demonstrates outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Employment Terms and Benefits:

  • In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
  • The salary range for this position is $58,328 to $86,614 per year based on experience.
