Company Overview

Mao Projects is a multi-award-winning art and ceramic studio located in Calgary, Canada. We specialize in creating functional and charming ceramic items inspired by the cuteness culture of Asia, designed to bring tranquility to daily rituals. Mao Projects is looking for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team. This is a temporary position partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs 2024 program, ideal for someone with experience in ceramics who can assist with various tasks in our dynamic studio.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Slip casting and hand building of production wares, maintaining our high standards of quality.
  • Assisting with the mixing of glazes and application.
  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of kilns.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized studio space.
  • Packing orders with accuracy, attention to detail, and care.
  • Staging and photographing works for social media and website listings.
  • Performing other related tasks in the studio as assigned.
Qualifications

Mao Projects values a variety of experiences, including academic, non-academic, paid and volunteer work. For this position, at least one year of ceramics experience is required.

Eligibility:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment period.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in ceramics, particularly in hand building; experience in slip casting is an additional asset.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience or interest in product photography and styling is preferred, though not required.
