Geraldine Fuenmayor
Playwright, artistic director, actress, and producer.
I am a Venezuelan-Canadian theatre artist, who find my voice through writing, acting, directing and producing theatre. Since 2015, as one of the creators of ExpresArte Theatre Club, I have been collaborating in more than 7 theatre productions in Spanish, while as an independent artist in at least 5 productions. I have been writing scenes since 2015 but I started my path as a playwright in 2020. My work has been influenced by my Venezuelan and Caribbean heritage, and by being an immigrant and a minority in many dimensions of life. Topics such as diversity, sexual identity, inclusion, resilience, multiculturalism, and immigration are dominant in my pieces. I love to write about women characters that are loving and connected to their cultural roots, but also powerful, intuitive, smart, and ambitious. Some of my theatre scripts: “Tuberose, Ginger and other essences”, “Armonía” (under development) and “Surviving my Queer Immigration” (under development).
