Compensation: $55 – $60/hour, commensurate with experience

For fifty years, the Calgary Boys’ Choir has been delivering dynamic, engaging, high-quality choral instruction, performance opportunities and formative experiences designed for boys.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the artistic director, the young singers director’s primary duties will be to lead
a weekly 60 minute music class from September to May for boys Kindergarten to Grade 2,
focusing on choral skills and musicianship.

Additional duties:

  • Assist/conduct rehearsals and performances with the other Calgary Boys’ Choir
    ensembles, as required
  • Attend all classes and any extra mutually agreed upon events as outlined in the
    season calendar
  • Participate in fundraising events and other administrative duties as required
  • Communicate regularly and openly with the artistic and administrative staff, keeping abreast
    of all information as outlined in choir memos
  • Attend all artistic meetings and occasional board meetings
  • Other duties may be requested by the artistic director and will be discussed as they arise.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in music education or performance
  • Early childhood music education experience/pedagogy an asset
  • Conducting experience of 2 – 5 years, with at least one year conducting children
  • Experience teaching children and youth
  • An understanding of vocal pedagogy
  • Excellent theory and musicianship skills
  • Proficient piano skills (for rehearsing and basic accompaniment)
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
