Young Singers Director
Calgary Boys’ Choir
Compensation: $55 – $60/hour, commensurate with experience
About
For fifty years, the Calgary Boys’ Choir has been delivering dynamic, engaging, high-quality choral instruction, performance opportunities and formative experiences designed for boys.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the artistic director, the young singers director’s primary duties will be to lead
a weekly 60 minute music class from September to May for boys Kindergarten to Grade 2,
focusing on choral skills and musicianship.
Additional duties:
- Assist/conduct rehearsals and performances with the other Calgary Boys’ Choir
ensembles, as required - Attend all classes and any extra mutually agreed upon events as outlined in the
season calendar - Participate in fundraising events and other administrative duties as required
- Communicate regularly and openly with the artistic and administrative staff, keeping abreast
of all information as outlined in choir memos - Attend all artistic meetings and occasional board meetings
- Other duties may be requested by the artistic director and will be discussed as they arise.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in music education or performance
- Early childhood music education experience/pedagogy an asset
- Conducting experience of 2 – 5 years, with at least one year conducting children
- Experience teaching children and youth
- An understanding of vocal pedagogy
- Excellent theory and musicianship skills
- Proficient piano skills (for rehearsing and basic accompaniment)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude
