Songwriting for Teens Fall Term

Rebecca Bruton Musical Arts Presents

Cost: $400 + GST

Learn the basics of songwriting and express yourself in a supportive peer environment. No songwriting or formal musical performance experience required, but prospective students should love music and be curious about creating their own.

Group and Individual Classes starting first week of October. Ages 13 – 18 (depending on enrolment numbers, class might be split into two different age groups).

Fall group session: 6 x 2-hour songwriting classes + live performance-recital at local café.

Dates:

  • October 1, 8, 15 & 22, 2024
  • November 19 & 26, 2024

Times: 7 – 9pm each night

Live performance-recital early December, date and location TBD.

Sessions will be taught from teacher’s home in the central neighbourhood of Bridgeland. Police-check provided.

Details:

  • Cost: $400 + GST ($50 per 2hr session + $50 administrative fee).
  • Minimum signup for group session: 3.
  • For individual lessons please contact Rebecca to discuss scheduling: $75 per lesson.

All are welcome. Rebecca’s classes are LGBTQIA2S+ affirming spaces.

About the Teacher

Rebecca Bruton is a songwriter, composer, singer, and guitarist with over ten years of professional experience across many genres and collaborative disciplines. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in music composition and interdisciplinary performance, where she created a 90min song cycle (‘Sugar’s Waste’) for six musicians as her graduating project (2016). She also holds a BFA in music, with an emphasis on voice and jazz violin.

In August 2024 Rebecca released her first album of instrumental music, on Montréal’s Collection QB label. She is currently completing her third album of original songs, which she will release in early 2024. Her film scores appear on Prime Video and CBC Gem.

Rebecca has been teaching music for all ages since 2008. She is looking forward to supporting teens as they cultivate a sense of curiosity and delight, deepening their relationship with songwriting and the musical arts.
