SYNC Sound and Image Conference
Oscill8 Collective
Dates: November 9 – 10, 2024
Tickets: $104.84 (in advance)
I would like to let you know about an amazing event we are putting on November 8, 9 and 10, 2024: SYNC: Sound and Image Conference.
We are very excited about this event. My name is Denis Laing, and I am on the board of Oscill8 collective, a Calgary-based group that supports electronic musicians and VJs. We bring in performers, support local acts and have monthly workshops/ social events.
The SYNC: Sound and Image Conference is a conference for folks interested in digital sound and video arts (both fans and experts!). The workshops will be at the National Music Centre, and the performances will be at Festival Hall. When the Alberta Electronic Music Conference (AEMCON) ended in 2019, it left a hole in the electronic music community in Calgary, and all of western Canada. This year, Oscill8 received a grant from Calgary Arts Development to create a conference inspired by AEMCON. However, we decided to expand the scope and embrace the visual elements as well, adding live VJ performing, video art and filmmaking. Thus, SYNC: Sound and Image Conference was born!
November 8, 9 and 10, 2024, Oscill8 will bring Calgary a 3-day, 2-night conference for electronic sound and visual artists, in collaboration with organizations like Emmedia, Kiamythos films, Ionic Sound, A Go Go Dancers and JazzYYC.
Feature acts will include U.K.’s Saytek, Daedalus (U.S.), Zander and Overland (B.C.), and YoYu (MB). We will also feature live VJs and two screening nights for experimental short films.
Workshops (at NMC) on November 9 will feature 3 streams: Sound, image and movement. All streams will feature a mix of topics of interest to experts as well as to broader audiences.
