Location: 315 Residency, Level 3, Bankers Hall

This November, Calgary is invited to celebrate Filipino arts and culture at LIKHAAN 2024, a three-day festival designed to captivate audiences and showcase the extraordinary talent of Canada’s creative Filipino community. Join Calgary’s homegrown artists, alongside artists from Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, as they demonstrate how they are redefining cross-cultural art and literature in this historic event.

Presented by Brookfield Properties and organized by Indioz Bravoz and Salingpusa Creatives, this inaugural celebration will be taking place at Bankers Hall in downtown Calgary. LIKHAAN—meaning “a place to create” in Tagalog—will feature an exciting lineup of Filipino artists showcasing visual art, literature, theatre, music, and thought-provoking discussions, all centered around the power and tradition of storytelling.

Designed to honour and amplify the diverse artistic voices of Filipino-Canadian creatives across multiple disciplines, attendees will be invited to engage with the past, present, and future of Filipino culture through themed panels and workshops:

“Kahapon” (Yesterday) — Thursday, November 14, 2024

Explore the rich histories of Filipino art, literature, language and culture through engaging presentations and a panel discussion that delves into the stories shaping the Filipino-Canadian experience.

“Ngayon” (Today )— Friday, November 15, 2024

Experience our vibrant Filipino-Canadian art scene in the present-day through live performances, exhibits and interactive sessions, including the release of Aklas Issue #2, Salingpusa Magazine’s showcase of featured creatives, a documentary screening of Hiraya, and a presentation of Filipinx storytelling project Magpahayag.

“Bukas” (Tomorrow) — Saturday, November 16, 2024

Illuminate the future of the Filipino-Calgarian community with roundtable discussions, a screening of the Aklas documentary and the much-anticipated Neon Baybayin Workshop, where participants will engage with Baybayin, the pre-colonial Filipino script, reimagined in neon.

LIKHAAN 2024 represents a significant milestone for Calgary’s growing Filipino creative community, offering a dynamic platform for connection, collaboration and co-creation. As Calgary’s creative scene continues to evolve, LIKHAAN fosters an inclusive environment for artists and audiences alike to engage with the rich and evolving narratives of Filipino culture and identity.
