Boom Baby Auditions
Sage Theatre
Sage Theatre and Mount Royal University are partnering on the world premiere of Natalie Meisner’s new play: Boom Baby!
This opportunity came to Sage Theatre over the summer, and it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up!
The dates in the Pumphouse Theatres are February 28 – March 8, 2025, and we’re planning a two-week full time rehearsal process before then. (That rehearsal process can and probably will adapt to the particular availability of the team!)
Tech dates: February 23, 2025
If you’re available, fill out the form below and we’ll get in touch based on interest and availability!
We will do our best to get back to everyone who applies!
Here’s the show synopsis, and then a cast list!
Synopsis:
Iona is a Nova Scotian, who, like many others, goes west to the oil patch for work. She trains for a career as a heavy equipment operator and finds a place for herself in the challenging new environment. When she becomes pregnant after a casual sexual encounter with a friend, she is in a jam. You can’t raise a child in a work camp. She considers adopting the child to a couple who work in management and have explosive ideas of their own, yet everything in a work camp is measured in dollars and sense. She must ask herself if there are some things, after all, that are priceless.
Cast:
- Iona: (20s) A young woman from the East Coast
- Justin: (20s) A young man from the East Coast
- Hort: (20s, slightly older) Justin’s friend who grew up in the same small East Coast town
- Brooke: (late 30s) A public relations specialist for mining companies in the Canadian North
- Owen: (late 30s–early 40s) An engineer working for an extraction company. Married to Brooke
