Curtis Running Rabbit-Lefthand
Artistic Executive Director of Indigenous Resilience in Music shares his story
An Indigenous multimedia creative producer, musician, spoken word artist, and scholar, Curtis Running Rabbit-Lefthand is the founder and Artistic Executive Director of Indigenous Resilience in Music (IRIM)—an Indigenous-led organization creating insight into the lives of Indigenous musicians and empowering Indigenous youth in reclaiming their identity in music and the arts.
“What if there was something created to help Indigenous youth who are coming from either an urban setting or from a reservation to really get them involved in what Indigenous musicians face everyday and how [can] they sustain themselves and pursue a career in music?” he asks.
The host of the Good Medicine Show on CJSW 90.9FM, Running Rabbit-Lefthand is also a first-year law student at the University of Calgary where he does research in creating Indigenous language and cultural preservation methodologies specific to Blackfoot ways of knowing.
He is a proud member of the Blackfoot Confederacy and comes from the Amskaapipikuni, Siksika, and Stoney Nakoda Nations. Tune in to hear more about who he is and how IRIM came to be in this edition of The Storytelling Podcast.
