Heather Urness
With a Diploma In Graphic Design from MacEwan University and a BFA from the University of Calgary (printmaking and drawing) Heather likes playing fast and loose with traditional printmaking techniques while seeking out new and environmentally friendly printing methods and materials.
Her current work explores the idea of the connection between manufactured repeated shapes, like wall paper with similar organic patterns found in nature. By placing these designs within the same image a new dialogue is created ….seeing something new in the familiar.The influence and role that colour plays is also a strong part of the conversation when creating new prints
Heather is very passionate about introducing printmaking to the uninitiated and collaborating with the converted. She has had the pleasure of teaching all kinds of art classes, to all kinds of people for over 30 years. Heather is an active member of Alberta Printmakers (A/P) , The Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) as well, maintains a busy home studio.
