Storytelling Alberta
Today’s storytellers continue the ancient tradition of oral storytelling. They put new energy into the old traditional tales, but they also tell personal, family and historical stories.
Storytellers deliver stories learned by heart! They don’t read them. The story comes alive through the use of the voice, facial expression and gesture, and sometimes with costumes and props. The storyteller is not just the narrator, but actually becomes all the characters in the story. The listeners actively create the images of the story in their imagination.
As in times of old, storytellers share their tales with audiences of all ages: adults, children and families. They tell wherever people gather: festivals, schools, libraries, museums, hospitals, seniors’ lodges and churches. They present workshops, professional development sessions and keynote presentations on a full range of storytelling topics.
