Calgary Fiddlers Association

Mission Statement: Using the art of Canadian fiddle music, we motivate, educate, and inspire children to develop musically and socially.

Vision Statement: To develop life skills for our members such as leadership, confidence, discipline, and time management with an appreciation for the Canadian heritage of folk fiddling; all acquired with exposure to local and international performance experiences.

Highlights of our Program: The Bow Valley Fiddlers (ages 7 – 18) and Calgary Fiddlers (ages 14– 18) comprise a vibrant group of young musicians dedicated to learning folk music, with a focus on Canadian styles, through a performance-centered educational program. The Calgary Fiddlers Association (CFA) adopts a holistic approach to youth development, striving to keep the heritage of Canadian fiddling alive while sharing this energetic art form with audiences locally, regionally, and internationally.

Our Wild Rosin Fiddle Camp weekend workshops offer students intensive fiddle education, choreography classes, social dancing, and team-building activities, all led by guest clinicians from across Canada. Advanced students also have the chance to mentor and inspire younger participants, fostering leadership skills and community spirit.

The Bow Valley Fiddlers and Calgary Fiddlers build confidence, musicianship, professionalism, and performance skills by showcasing their talents at over 100 events in the Calgary area each year. Known for their authentic ‘Canadiana’ style, the Calgary Fiddlers are frequently hired by international groups and conventions, symbolizing Canadian Western Hospitality.

The Calgary Fiddlers Association also engages in community initiatives such as the Celebrate Canada Program, visiting over 60 limited mobility senior centers during the last two weeks of June to celebrate Canada Day. Another key focus is the Healing Through Music program, which connects young musicians with older generations and provides interactive performances for aging, medically compromised individuals, and those in hospices or special needs schools, where fiddle music offers therapeutic benefits.
