Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary

Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary (SAMS) was founded in 2014 and is a charitable organization. The society upholds and educates on Indian classical music in Alberta (mainly in Calgary). SAMS started the very first of its kind annual event know as the Indian Classical Music Festival (ICMF) in 2016 here in Calgary.

Our mission is to keep the tradition and art of Indian Classical Music alive for generations to come and our vision is to keep our youth engaged in constructive pursuits to promote and revive the art of Indian classical music.

The society also operates the Academy of Indian Classical Music (AICM) where we teach this art form to students of all ages.

We acknowledge that the land we gather on, Mohkinsstsis, is the ancestral territory of the Siksikaitsitapi — the Blackfoot people — comprising the Siksika, Kainai and Piikani Nations, as well as Treaty 7 signatories, the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Îyârhe Nakoda Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney First Nations. Today this land is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government Districts 5 and 6 as well as many First Nations and Inuit from across Turtle Island.
