Do you find that certain days stick with you forever?

Like the time you fell off your bike, went for ice cream with your dad, or built sand castles on a hot day at the beach. Then other days are lost forever… what makes them stay or go, who knows.

The flower painting came about as winter was turning to spring, with new beginnings, and remembering all the good things that happened in the past crazy year, I am never one to dwell on the bad.

I find that is how all my paintings start, with inspirations from everyday life or memories that jump to the forefront.

We moved to Calgary in 2015 to be closer to family and with that move I retired and was finally able to revisit my love of the arts. There are so many great artists and art clubs here that I jumped right in and have not looked back. I work with acrylics as I don’t seem to have patience for sitting and waiting for paint to dry. I love to experiment and sometimes get happy accidents that surprise and delight me that something has worked! Have a plan and let it go is a motto I stand by.

I’m a juried member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and Calgary Sketch Club, and am also a member of Calgary Community Painters Society and Calgary Arts Guild. And I am presently in the Leighton Art Centre’s 19th Annual Juried Members Show.

I can’t wait to see where this new chapter of my life takes me.

Judy Ruggles is a Calgary-based artist painting inspiration from this and that—she paints, paints, and paints some more. Traditionally working with acrylics on canvas, see more of her work at judyruggles.com, and be sure to follow her on Instagram and Facebook.
