Sara Bateman Is Moving On
We have some big changes here at Calgary Arts Development even beyond the public art program.
A few weeks ago, Sara Bateman shared with the team at Calgary Arts Development that she will be leaving her role as Director, Community Investment and Impact. Her last day in the office will be June 30, 2021.
“Sara brought an amazing amount of experience, insight, and strategic thinking to our organization,” says President and CEO Patti Pon. “She led the community investment team at a very important time when our budget was doubled. Her deep empathy and respect for others helped advance our equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility work as well as broadening our reach and relationships in the community. Sara’s knowledge and experience in the realm of research and evaluation advanced our ability to measure and articulate the impact of our work. And her deep understanding of systems change made her a powerful influence in our strategic planning processes. I sincerely thank Sara for all she has done for Calgary Arts Development and the arts sector, and I wish her the very best for her future plans.”
“This is not a decision that I made lightly but a necessary one for me at this time,” says Sara. “I will continue to be a champion and advocate for the arts in Calgary as I deeply believe the arts make our communities what they are. The arts reflect our stories and help to make meaning of the world around us. The last two and half years have been rich in experience and deep relationships within the arts sector and the city. I will always value this time and the people I had the privilege to work with at Calgary Arts Development. My plan is to return to my consulting and facilitation practice in the fall so do feel free to reach out via LinkedIn to stay in touch and learn about what my steps will be.”
Melissa Tuplin, Community Investment and Capacity Manager, will be stepping in as Interim Director, Community Investment for the remainder of the year. Melissa has been with Calgary Arts Development for the past seven years, and has a comprehensive understanding of our grant investment programs and of Calgary’s arts sector. There is no doubt that she will lead the team well. We will announce future plans for the team when the time is right.
