Manager, Infrastructure Operations

The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for a reliable and collaborative Manager, Infrastructure Operations to join the computing & technical services team and deliver mission critical applications and services to staff, faculty, and students.
This is a permanent, full-time position to start as soon as possible. Hours of work are 35 hours per week.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the director, computing & technical services, the manager, infrastructure operations manages the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of the computing, network infrastructure, and related services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the existing infrastructure which includes Active Directory, file systems and storage, firewalls, Wi-Fi access points, servers (physical and virtual), desktop images, switches, and related services.
- Make recommendations for areas of improvement.
- Manage LAN and WAN security and performance and mentor others on best practices.
- Administer and manage tools for endpoint protection on servers, workstations, perimeter devices, and email services.
- Manage or sponsor projects related to infrastructure enhancements to the computing environment.
- Participate on the ITSC (IT Steering Committee) to ensure changes to the computing environment are conducted in accordance with the University’s risk tolerance as outlined in the Enterprise Risk Management framework.
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to assess system capabilities and determine long-range needs.
- Manage and maintain a system for backing up critical data.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum undergraduate degree or technical diploma in a computer related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification(s) from at least one of the following: Microsoft, VMWare, Cisco, (ISC)2, CISSP or equivalent.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience with networking and datacenter management, system administration, virtualization, all tiers of support, installations, and troubleshooting. Experience working in an educational setting is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with switches, firewalls, wireless access points, WAN, LAN and VLAN environments.
- Demonstrated experience in overall network infrastructure from hardware to software, protocols, routing, switching, design, administration, and support.
- Expert level experience with the latest desktop and server Windows OS versions, including the use and troubleshooting of PowerShell for managing scripts and automations.
- Demonstrated experience in project management and planning.
- Competent with ITIL or similar frameworks for service management.
- Experience with MacOS is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated success in building strong rapport and trusted relationships with various stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work with a minimum level of supervision.
- Willingness to champion constructive improvements and adapt to changes with a positive approach.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and conduct crucial conversations effectively.
Compensation:
AUArts offers an attractive benefit package, with annual salary dependent upon skills, education and experience.
