Artistic Director
CMC is an un-auditioned community choir operating since 1979 as an independent organization led by a committed volunteer board of directors.
With the retirement of our artistic director of the past 18 years, we are looking for an enthusiastic musician who can lead and grow our choir.
We meet Tuesday evenings from 7:30 – 9:30pm and perform two seasonal concerts: Spring and Christmas. We also sing at retirement residences, community events, the Calgary Carol Festival, and Alberta Choralfest. We hold an all-day workshop each season and we occasionally travel to choral festivals such as Ottawa’s Unisong.
We offer compensation (commensurate with qualifications), an annual subsidized professional development opportunity, and a wonderful bunch of welcoming choristers who are dedicated to volunteer their time and skills in multiple roles.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Strong choral music knowledge, training and skills.
- Experience conducting a musical group.
- Ability to educate and demonstrate vocal skills to enhance members’ current skills.
- Source and recommend new music to augment our 300+ library of authentic music from around the world, including some in their original languages.
- Enthusiastic, uplifting leadership at weekly rehearsals and performances.
- Ability to attend and contribute to monthly board meetings as an ex officio member.
- Flexibility to hold any additional rehearsals and performances as agreed upon.
