Personal trainer and instructor sees fitness as an avenue for creativity

What started as a passion in running for Cindy Yu, has led her to creatively support others in achieving their fitness goals, while building a cool following of 330K on her Instagram page, @cindyyufitness.

For over 20 years, Yu has been a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. She also teaches fitness classes online, such as full body and core workouts. She enjoys a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, skating, cycling, and distance running. But when it comes to creativity, it is running that springs Yu into the inspired zone.

She says, “Running helps my mind wander and opens up space for creative ideas and effective exercises for my fitness classes. This in turn allows me to express and discover what my body is capable of, and for those who participate with me.”

Yu provides high quality instruction through her love of being active, and her knowledge of fitness and health. An approachable person with a unique sense of humor, she prides herself in building rapport with her audience. She gets to know them at a personal level by understanding their goals and aspirations. Subsequently, her workouts are customized to her audience.

Yu strives to consistently help educate, motivate, and support clients in developing their health and wellness, while having fun at the same time. One scroll through her Instagram profile is sufficient to showcase her creativity in this regard.

She admits, “I put a lot of thought into each exercise to create a balanced and effective workout program. Interestingly enough, a lot of creative juices flow if I’m up during the night or I’ll even have dreams about new exercises! No two workouts are ever alike!”

For Yu, the goal of fitness is to help people stay healthy and achieve their goals of strength or weight loss. The most rewarding part of this job is hearing her participants say how much stronger they feel, physically and mentally, which also translates into increased confidence in many aspects of their everyday lives.

Yu reflects, “Body transformations are incredible when you see clients from the start to achieving their goals. I feel blessed to be able to share my passion of fitness with the world.”

About The Storytelling Project

On November 16, 2015, Calgary Arts Development hosted a working session with approximately 30 creative Calgarians from various walks of life. Many of the small working groups voiced the need to gather and share more stories of people living creative lives.

That need has turned into The Storytelling Project.

The Storytelling Project raises awareness about Calgarians who, by living creative lives, are making Calgary a better city, effecting positive change and enriching others’ lives.
