Brisebois Bees invites Calgary artists, creators and makers of all ages to participate in our 2nd Annual Art Box Exhibition Contest. We are a Brentwood-grown urban beekeeping operation managing over 70 honey bee colonies, and we are looking for artists to help us turn our hives into a “living art gallery.”
The Project
We provide the canvas: an assembled, white-primed deep Langstroth super (a real, functional beehive box). You turn it into a masterpiece. Following a one-day public exhibition and voting event, your painted box will become a working home for thousands of honey bees in our Calgary and area apiaries.
Categories:
- The “Queen’s Choice”: Adult Fine Art/Technical Skill
- The “Worker Bee”: Youth 16 and under
Fees & Prizes (Compensation)
There is a $25 + GST ($26.25) registration fee to cover the cost of the primed boxes. As this is a community contest rather than a commissioned project, compensation is awarded via extensive prize packages generously donated by local Calgary businesses. Prizes include luxury bath goods, custom woodworking (charcuterie boards), artisanal foods, jewelry and apparel.
