Pay: $18 to $21 per hour
Do you want to be part of a team of artists creating physical theatre and dance performances in schools? These projects are week-long residencies taking place throughout Alberta. Each one is based on a unique theme chosen by the school.
Each artist will support three (3) classes in creating a short 3 – 5 minute theatre piece based on the chosen theme.
The ideal candidate will be an actor with some experience in at least two of these areas: Choreography, improv, or devised theatre. Experience with running children’s drama or dance classes is an asset, and experience with lighting, sound or video equipment is also an asset. A driver’s license is also good.
Artist fees are up to 70% higher than equity rates (our artist fees range from $750 – $1200 per week). Out of town residencies also include accommodation and per diems. All the work takes place in Alberta. Artists are able to request the weeks they wish to work.
Trickster Theatre is looking for artists for 2025 – 26. Most artists typically work 8 – 26 weeks a year (depending on their availability) for 3-10 years. We hope you stick around!
Trickster Theatre is a 45 year old company. It is the largest TYA company in Alberta and has completed more than 1350 week-long residencies in over 100 communities in Alberta. More than 350,000 Albertans have been part of a week-long Trickster residencies.
What to bring: A 4 – 6 minute piece that showcases your ability to be physical and play characters that have a big presence. We will also ask you to do a short improv that also focuses on being physical and on having a big presence.

Next steps: After the generals, artists may be invited to a second audition that will take place in a school with a group of students. No preparation is required.
